what is palo santo?

Palo Santo is a tree that grows on the coast of South America. In Spanish, the name means “Holy Wood”. Shamans and medicine people burn Palo Santo in ceremonies for its energetically cleansing and healing properties, similar to Sage. It helps to lift your vibration in preparation for meditation and allows for a higher connection. It has incredible therapeutic healing properties, enhances creativity and has been said to bring good fortune. I read somewhere that you use sage to clear the negative energy and Palo Santo to bring good energy in and it was like a light bulb went off in my brain. I didn’t know why I particularly chose one over the other on any given day but when I think about it this way, that is exactly what I was doing!

The ritual of the burning and the affirmations is a powerful tool. Have you heard the saying ”your words create your reality”? What would happen if you just took a few minutes every morning to start your day with this ritual of burning the Palo Santo?

new moon rituals

Do you have a new moon ritual? The new moon is a time of renewal by creating a ritual since this is a monthly occurrence; will help guide you for clarity, connection with self, and intention setting.

I like to take the day of (or at least before) the new moon to clean. I purge items that are not serving me anymore and rearrange to make my space feel happy. I notice my mood dramatically shifts when my home is a cluttered mess - I literally cannot focus and feel stuck. After cleaning, I feel so much better; it’s just what I need to get my mind open, to not be distracted.

The night of the new moon is the time to focus on my intentions and goals for the month. I’ll sit in my quiet corner of the home and burn palo santo and meditate. I keep a journal nearby to write down my thoughts as they come to me, I don’t focus on what I am writing just let it all pour out. You should feel relaxed and in sync with yourself. Self-care work is really what the soul needs. We, women, are really magical, in my opinion. And the moon is your reminder of that. We are connected to the moon, and I invite you to flow with her feminine energy to keep your own body and soul in balance. Find your way of setting your intentions; there is no right or wrong path.
